University of Petra

The University Of Petra (UOP) has eight faculties: The faculty of Architecture & Design, the Faculty of Information Technology, the Faculty of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Administrative & Financial Sciences, the faculty of Mass communication, the faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering. UOP offers 27 Bachelor’s degrees and 6 Master’s degrees. UOP is represented in this project with a team of academic members from the faculty of Information Technology, Faculty Arts and Sciences, and the faculty of Administrative and financial sciences. The team members have strong expertise in the fields of education and internationalization. The university has established an OFFER office to link the UOP community with their counterparts in the world. This office aims to promote UOP staff, research to the external institution to submit and implement joint research projects. This office reports to the UOp president. During the last four years, the office managed to participate in several international agreements in particular with European partners.

The university is participating in several EU funded projects and UOP staff is engaged in many research activities with European joint projects

Ali Al Maqousi

director of Office of External Funding for Research Projects at University of Petra

Dr. Ali Maqousi is currently the director of the Office of External Funding for Research Projects at the University of Petra and an assistant professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, Amman-Jordan. He was appointed head of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Networks during the period of Sep. 2009 till Sep. 2012. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from Oxford Brookes University, UK, in 2003 for his work on providing Quality of Service (QoS) in packet-switched networks. He was a network administrator and part-time teacher assistant at Petra University (PU) from 1993–1997 and a full-time teacher assistant from 1999-2003. Since 2003 he is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Information Technology at PU. He organized four international conferences and one of them specialized in ICT Applications for Renewable Energy Sources. He is the university technical advisor for the renewable energy project (1.5 MWp), and he is a consultant for several institutions to build Renewable Energy projects.  He has been selected by the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) to attend a workshop “Training on Innovation” held in Naples/ Italy last November.

He participated in a number of EU funded projects in the past years. He is involved in research relating to multi-service networking, network performance, security and privacy, social networks, smart cities, and smart grids.

Dr. Maqousi is responsible for building partnerships to support refugees and refugee students, e.g. the Mediterranean Project with Luiss University and the HOPES project.

Rania Abu Ramadan

Professor Rania Aburamadan graduated in 1998 with a First Class Honours degree in Architectural Engineering from Applied Science University in Amman Jordan. She worked as a Designer, Construction Site Engineer, and graphic designer before undertaking a Master’s degree in Urban Design at Jordan University, Amman- Jordan in 2004. After which was followed by a period as a Senior Lecturer in the Architectural department in Jordan University and Petra University and as a referee for graduation projects and other architectural design courses in several universities. On completion of her Ph.D. in 2017, she joined to University of Petra as an assistant professor in sustainable development specialist, and extensively design projects with students in several categories and levels. She was involved in a wide range of civil and structural engineering projects as an Engineer/Senior Engineer. She is a part of a number of committees and has been on working with a number of grants and projects (HOBES, Jean Monnet Network, Erasmus Un-Habitat, and other national agencies). Her research interests are in the fields of sustainable management and development, and refugees studies, design science methodology, urban planning, and collaborative communications.

Taghreed Abu Hamdan

Assistant Dean for Quality Assurance at the faculty of Arts and Sciences at Petra University

Professor Taghreed Abu Hamdan is Assistant Dean for Quality Assurance at the faculty of Arts and Sciences at Petra University from 2013 to the present. She is qualified in Child Education. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Education. She has long experience in the field of education and social development. She worked in The Education Reform Plan for Knowledge Economy Project- ERfKE funded by USAID to support the Ministry of Education during 2005-2008 during this period she developed a Quality Assurance System for public kindergartens and trained teachers and teachers’ supervisors on the system application. She developed in-service training manuals and programs for kindergartens’ teachers and teachers’ supervisors in Jordan, Pakistan, and Egypt and conducted training programs for public and private kindergarten teachers and supervisors. She was assigned by national and international organizations to be on board of steering and planning committees for curricula and national plans for early childhood development. At the University of Petra, she teaches courses for undergraduates on early childhood education and development; coordinated a cooperative project with Utah University (USA) to improve the early childhood education curriculum at the University (2008-2009). She was also responsible for the practicum course for an undergraduate program. Currently, she is a member of the following higher committees at the University of Petra: Accreditation and Quality Assurance Board, Academic Programs Committee; Academic Study Plans Committee, University Competency Exam Committee.

Khaled Tarazi

Architecture Department Head at the University of Petra

Khaled Tarazi completed his high school diploma from the Bishop’s School in Amman with several awards. Since then his passion for art, design, and architecture has led him to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Architecture with a concentration on computer applications from Cal Poly, USA. Khaled loved teaching and decided to get a Ph.D. in Architecture with a concentration in Digital Design after which his academic profession allowed him to teach in Universities in the field of Architecture and Graphic Design. He held a program director position in a Canadian University in Bahrain, and an Architecture Department Head at the University of Petra for 5 years. Khaled is interested in research projects that are related to the refugees to ease their anxiety and help by all means possible through collaborations with experts from other fields. Khaled held many arts and digital art exhibitions won several awards for installation art and practice pottery for over 25 years.
